We have class meetings several times a week. During our class meetings, students learn how to give and receive compliments before discussing strategies that develop social and problem solving skills. Students learn and practice self-regulation and coping strategies.
FIVE CRITERIA FOR POSITIVE DISCIPLINE
If a child is having an issue with a friend. He can request that that friend do Bugs & Wishes with him. The child with the issue holds our firefly finger puppet and wish-wand and says, "___________ it bugs me when you _____________. I wish you would ______________." The friend then says, "__________, I hear you say it bugs you when i __________. I will _______________."
Class Meeting Agenda Items
A student may choose write an issue in our Class Meeting agenda book. During each class meeting we address one item in the book. The student who put the item on the agenda explains the issue and then chooses one of three options:
A student may choose to spend time in Cloud City (located just outside the classroom in the hall) to calm down, recharge, reset or just to take a break. We have a variety of sensory objects there (squish balls, finger puppets, glitter wand), as well as books on meditation. There is also a Zones of Regulation chart up to help a child identify their emotional zone.
